Let’s be clear from the start: the distress many trans people experience is not because of who they are, but because of the world they live in. Much of what is labelled as “mental illness” in the trans community is in fact a natural response to ongoing abuse, marginalisation, and systemic violence. From micro-aggressions to harmful legislation, from misgendering in public spaces to the denial of basic healthcare—trans people are forced to navigate a world that relentlessly questions and attacking their existence.
