Contemporary Institution of Clinical Sexology (CICS)
Dialogue on decolonising couples therapy and addressing bias impacting BIPOC queer clients.
Contemporary Institution of Clinical Sexology
in collaboration with Saquib Ahmad, founder of Fighting Fear, presents a compelling discussion on the challenges BIPOC Queer people face in couples therapy. Saquib joins Julie Sale, founding director of CICS, to delve into how therapy spaces can sometimes perpetuate racism and Queer-phobia—whether implicitly or explicitly—and the critical need to decolonise training institutions to foster inclusivity and equity.
Drawing from his own experiences, Saquib highlights how bias, often ingrained in majority perspectives, deeply impacts therapy outcomes. Together, Saquib and Julie explore actionable changes needed to make therapy a safe and affirming space for all individuals.
